The handpan is a completely beginner-friendly instrument where percussion and melody come together. Playing the handpan creates calming, spherical and long-lasting sound worlds that completely captivate both the player and the listener. Neither previous experience nor knowledge of music theory is required, because on the handpan all tone fields are on a fixed scale. With most models it is not possible to hit dissonant, i.e. “wrong” sounding notes. Therefore, you can follow your own intuition when playing and lose yourself in mysterious, dreamy melodies after just a short time. With a little practice, more complicated rhythms, captivating chords and two-part melodies are of course also possible.
Sela Unity Stainless Steel Handpans are completely handmade, perfectly tuned and made of a stainless steel alloy. Handpans made of stainless steel have a significantly longer sustain than models made of nitrated steel and are therefore particularly suitable for slow, relaxing and meditative playing. At the same time, they are very easy to care for and are well suited for beginners, as their quick, sensitive response requires less effort when playing. Sela Unity Stainless Steel Handpans have a matt gold finish, which gives them an elegant, high-quality look.
Sela Unity handpans are identical to the stainless steel models of the Harmony series, but are tuned to the fundamental frequency of 432 Hz (pitched A). Since they do not harmonize with conventionally tuned instruments (440 Hz), they are primarily suitable as solo instruments and are primarily used for esoteric or sound therapeutic purposes. The mood C sharp Kurd sounds a bit more meditative and sustaining compared to our best-selling models D Kurd and D Amara. The central note in the middle of the handpan is C#3, with the notes G#3, A3, B3, C#4, D#4, E4, F#4 and G#4 arranged in a circle around it. Particularly practical: an overview of the scale with the individual tone fields is lasered onto the underside of the handpan.
Every Sela handpan is delivered with a bag made of tear-resistant nylon fabric, which, thanks to its good lining, ensures optimal protection during transport. It can be carried comfortably by hand using the two handles or as a backpack using the adjustable shoulder straps. A practical outer compartment offers enough space for small accessories such as a metronome.
